St Martha On The Hill
Christ Church is linked with the delightful “St Martha-on-the-Hill”, in a joint benefice. The church was rebuilt in 1850 on the site of an old Saxon church and the view from the top is of rolling fields and woodland, and on a clear day it is possible to see eight counties from one point.
People of all ages climb the hill Sunday by Sunday to worship and pray.
St Martha-on-the-Hill is floodlit each Christmas, and on Christmas Eve the Midnight Mass is always well attended. It is popular for weddings, and has welcomed special services such as those for the Rambler’s Association, Pony Club and for people with pets. The Easter Day dawn service is now becoming a regular event - followed by bacon rolls for breakfast at Christ Church.
There is an 11am service every Sunday which is a traditional Book of Common Prayer service which alternates weekly between Holy Communion and Mattins.
